SC stays MP HC order banning sale of pan masala, gutkha

The Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed a Madhya Pradesh high court order banning the sale and manufacture of pan masala and gutkha in the state.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice B N Kirpal passed this order in response to a petition challenging the high court order filed by a company manufacturing the product.

The ban would be stayed till a Special Leave Petition filed by Anokhi & Sons company was disposed off, the court said.

Following a Allahabad high court order banning the two products in Uttar Pradesh, the Madhya Pradesh high court had issued a similar order in the state.

The apex court had on Monday stayed the Allahabad high court order while listing the case for hearing on August 19.
