Replying to a question during the course of the on-going budget session of the assembly on Monday, Chief Minister Mayawati said 22 of the state's 70 districts are "terrorist-affected".
The list includes Agra, the city of Taj Mahal, as well as Lucknow, the state capital. Other than Kanpur, the industrial hub of the state that lies in central UP, most of the affected districts are in western and eastern UP.
Mayawati said, "The districts affected by the terrorist menace in Uttar Pradesh are Meerut, Bulandshahar, Saharanpur, Agra, Ghaziabad, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Mathura, Bareilly, Firozabad, Shravasti, Varanasi, Lakhimpur-Kheri, Maharajganj, Gorakhpur, Siddharthnagar, Bahraich, Kanpur, Balrampur, Lucknow, Basti and Azamgarh."
