Reservation order: Mayawati shifts sports secretary too

After suspending Principal Secretary (sports) Harish Chandra earlier in the day for issuing a government order providing reservation in sports colleges and hostels without consulting her, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati late on Friday night shifted Sports Secretary Kashmira Singh.

Though no official announcement has been made in this regard, sources said Singh had been replaced by Home Secretary J N Chamber.

Singh reportedly did not inform the chief minister about the provisions in the government order, the sources said.

The controversial order, which provided reservations for SCs, STs and OBCs, in sports colleges and hostels, was later scrapped by the chief minister.
