Congress wants Amethi named after Rajiv Gandhi

December 31, 2002 19:32 IST

The Congress on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Uttar Pradesh Governor Vishnukant Shastri seeking a review of the government's decision to rename Amethi district after Chatrapati Sahuji Maharaj.

It said that the district should be named after former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

A delegation led by UP Congress Committee president Arun Kumar Singh 'Munna' submitted the memorandum.

All India Congress Committee member and former Union minister Subodh Kant Sahay and former chief minister Ram Naresh Yadav signed it, among others.
