About 1000 hutments were gutted down while six persons received minor injuries when a major fire broke out at Sanjay Gandhi Nagar near Shivaji Nagar depot in north-east Mumbai in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The fire broke out at around 0155 hours (IST), fire brigade sources said, adding, in all 12 fire engines and six jumbo tankers were pressed into service to extinguish the fire.

While the fire has been completely put off, the cooling process was still going on, they said.
