Orissa leaders cutting across party lines have supported the bifurcation of the Eastern Railways into two zones and said any opposition to it will lead to an agitation in their state.
Reacting sharply to the demand of Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee for a review of the proposed bifurcation, secretary-general of Biju Janata Dal, Damodar Rout, said there is no need for referring the issue to a railway advisory committee.
He told rediff.com that any delay in implementing the bifurcation will amount to 'sheer injustice to the people of the state'.
Bharatiya Janata Party's Yuva Morcha president Dharmendra Pradhan said, "Opposition to the creation of a separate railway zone displays the regional mentality of Trinamool Congress chief and the Left leaders of West Bengal."
Senior Congress party leader and former Union minister Srikant Jena also said that the any move by the Centre to revise the order notifying the bifurcation 'will not be tolerated by the people of Orissa'.
"People would revolt if the central government failed to honour its commitments," he added.
