3 militants, 2 soldiers killed in J&K

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Three militants, including a top militant of the Jaish-e-mohammad, and two soldiers were killed in separate encounters in Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir late on Wednesday, police sources said on Thursday.

Bilal Ahmed alias Mehmood Bhai, a JeM militant, was killed in a fierce gun battle with troops of the 21 RR in the Rajwar forest in Kupwara district, they said.

Police described the killing as a setback to the JeM.

Police said two soldiers were wounded in the encounter and have been admitted to a hospital.

In another encounter, two militants and two soldiers of the 32 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) were killed on Wednesday during a cordon and search operation at Sogam in Kupwara district, they said.
