A newly-promoted Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) has been remanded to judicial custody for alleged misappropriation of funds amounting to Rs three million (Rs 30 lakh) during his tenure as general secretary of the Andhra Pradesh Police Officers Association.
The association had filed criminal cases against C Ramesh Kumar and two others.
Ramesh Kumar appeared before the Ninth Metropolitan Magistrate N Ananda Rao on Monday with an application for recall of the non-bailable warrant pending against him, pleading ill-health.
The warrant was issued on July 3, 2001 after Ramesh Kumar failed to appear before the court.
However, his plea was rejected. He was remanded to judicial custody till June 11 and shifted to the Chanchalguda central prison.
Kumar has applied for bail.
Ramesh Kumar, who was working as an inspector, was recently promoted as DSP and posted to the Crime Investigation Department.
