The Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar rushed to Mumbai on Tuesday evening in the wake of the Congress-NCP coalition government in Maharashtra being reduced to a minority.
Pawar will be in Mumbai for the next three days to tackle the worst-ever political crisis for the 30-month old Vilasrao Deshmukh government and has postponed his programmes in Pune and Kolhapur districts during the period, NCP sources said.
The NCP chief had been on a day's visit to Delhi to participate in a function of the Bharat Scouts and Guides of which he is the president.
During the day, Pawar had telephonic interaction with a host of leaders including those from the Congress, Left parties and Janata Dal (Secular).
Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal had a meeting with Pawar in Mumbai on Monday soon after People's Workers Party MLAs had withdrawn support to the government.
All India Congress Committee general secretary Vayalar Ravi, who is in charge of party affairs in Maharashtra, left for Mumbai on Monday morning to be at hand to find ways and means to tide over the crisis.
Ravi had been constantly in touch with the chief minister and Pradesh Congress Committee president Govindrao Adik and also had a meeting with party president Sonia Gandhi.
