19 killed, 45 injured in bus accident in Maharashtra

At least nineteen people were killed and 45 injured when a bus in which they were travelling fell into a river at village Kalamb on the Mumbai-Goa highway, 85 kms from Mumbai in the wee hours of Wednesday, police said.

Thirteen bodies have been identified so far, they added.

The mishap occurred near Mangaon when the driver lost control of the vehicle, police said.

The victims included eight women and three girls, they said.

The bus was on its way to Mumbai from Lanja in the Konkan region, they said.

A crane has been rushed to help in rescue operations, police said adding the injured have been hospitalised.

The seriously injured passengers, including the driver of the vehicle, have been brought to Mumbai for treatment, police said.
