Maharashtra govt may take legal action against Thackeray: Bhujbal

Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray has sparked yet another controversy by his reported casteist remarks in the context of a foreign tour by an all-party team of MLAs from Maharashtra.

Thackeray, opposing the state-sponsored tour, had on June 19 reportedly said, "What is the need for our legislators to go abroad when the state's coffers are empty? Why are they (MLAs) going abroad... are there not enough scavengers there?"

The MLAs are slated to go abroad in August as part of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association tour to study democratic values.

Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal told reporters in Mumbai that the state government was contemplating initiating legal action against Bal Thackeray for his remarks after consulting the law and judiciary department on this issue.
