Heavy rains lash Nagpur, adjoining areas

Heavy rains on Monday disrupted normal life in Nagpur, inundating streets and restricting vehicular movement.

Rain waters entered houses in several low-lying areas and fire bridge personnel were rushed to pump it out.

A total of 93.8 mm rainfall was recorded till 1730 hours IST, according to the Regional Meteorological Office.

School children suffered the most as they were stranded at many places.

Even Municipal Commissioner Dr T Chandrashekhar's bungalow on East High Court Road was not immune to the rain waters, fire brigade sources said.

The main cause of water logging in most places was the ongoing road construction work under the Integrated Road Development Project (IRDP), official sources said adding, services of the state transport undertaking were also affected.

However, there were no reports of disruption of rail services, sources said.

Heavy rains were also reported in other adjoining districts in Vidarbha region.
