Senior Karnataka ministers retain portfolios

Senior ministers in the S M Krishna ministry in Karnataka managed to retain their portfolios after Thursday's reshuffle with the chief minister himself retaining the finance ministry, which he held earlier.

Minor changes include Mallikarjun Kharge getting the minor irrigation in addition to the home ministry, which he held earlier.

According to a Raj Bhavan communique issued around midnight, another senior minister Kagodu Thimappa, who was earlier in charge of the social welfare department, has been allotted health and family welfare, A Krishnappa has been allotted social welfare (earlier he held primary and secondary education), Sageer Ahmed has been given housing (sugar) and Roshan Baig small scale industries and haj (transport and tourism).

Shifting from housing, Qamrul Islam has been allocated labour, which A M Hindusgeri, dropped from the ministry, was in charge of, while D K Shivakumar has been shifted to urban development from cooperation.

V S Koujalagi has been allotted the agriculture department, which was earlier held by T B Jayachandra, who was dropped in the reshuffle.

Dr G Parameshwara, who was elevated to cabinet rank, continues to hold the higher education department.

Information Technology and tourism departments are with D B Inamdar, who was earlier the food and civil supplies minister.

B K Chandrashekhar, who held the IT portfolio, has now been moved to the primary and secondary education ministry.
