Minister using public money to make sexline calls: CPI-M MP

A Communist Party of India-Marxist MP on Tuesday charged a Bharatiya Janata Party minister with using "lakhs of public money" for making international sexline calls and demanded his resignation.

Rajya Sabha member Biplab Dasgupta, in a letter to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, claimed he had evidence to show that Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Satyabrata Mukherjee made such calls as an MP from West Bengal and later as a minister.

"The minister seemed to be spending nights doing nothing but making dirty calls," Dasgupta said in the letter released to the media in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Satyabrata Mukherjee was not available for comments.

Dasgupta also accused the minister of using the money of sick public sector undertakings to visit Ranikhet and Tirupathi.

"He has to go to save you from further embarrassment," he told the prime minister.
