33 passengers killed as bus catches
fire near Ahmednagar

At least 33 passengers were burnt alive when the diesel tank of a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation bus caught fire at Khadki phata in Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra on Thursday, police said.

The bus was on its way to the pilgrim town of Shirdi from Kannad in Marathwada region when the mishap occurred.

Several bodies have been charred beyond recognition, police said.

Ambulances and fire tankers from Ahmednagar and Aurangabad have reached the accident site.
