UP BJP MLA, supporters stage protest at party headquarters

Sharat Pradhan in Lucknow

At least one Bhartiya Janata Party MLA has openly expressed resentment over his non-inclusion in the BSP-BJP coalition ministry led by BSP leader Mayawati.

Hundreds of BJP activists from Bhinga in Bahraich district drove down all the way to Lucknow and staged a protest at the party's state headquarters.

The reason: 'Raw deal for their MLA Chandra Mani Kant Singh'.

Singh (55), the erstwhile ruler of the princely state of Bhinga, won the seat with a sizeable margin.

"How can Raja Chandra Mani Kant Singh be passed over for ministership in preference to a junior MLA (from Bahraich district)," his supporters asked.

Their siege of the BJP office prompted state BJP chief Kalraj Misra to stay away from the premises.

Even former chief minister Rajnath Singh's efforts to mollify Singh have been in vain.

Jata Shankar Singh is another BJP MLA unhappy at being left out of the state cabinet. Coincidentally, he too belongs to Bahraich district. He was elected from Nanpara.

The Rashtriya Lok Dal has its won set of problems with veterans unhappy with the induction of first-time MLA Anuradha Chaudhary as a cabinet minister.

Her close proximity to RLD chief Ajit Singh helped her get into the ministry, they allege.
