At least seven huts were set on fire and some shops and vehicles were also damaged.
A minor tiff during a game of cards in the Kali Masjid locality near Chandsavli Dargah on Sunday night sparked the violence on Monday morning, Chief Minister Vilas Deshmukh told reporters in Mumbai.
Following the altercation between one Bhimsingh Ratan Bhil and his friends, Shiraddin Shaikh and Salaluddin Shaikh, a mob hacked one person, identified as Subhash Agarwal, to death and burnt his body, sources in the police control room in Nasik said.
The mob also indulged in stone-throwing and arson.
A police force that rushed to the area was also attacked by the mob. Eighteen of the policemen, including Deputy Superintendent of Police C N Kumbhar, were injured.
Police then opened fire to disperse the mob. One person, identified as Yogesh Rathod, was killed in the firing, they said.
At least 83 persons were arrested in connection with the violence, they added.
Deshmukh described the situation as "tense but under control" and said curfew had been clamped in the area and two companies of the State Reserve Police had been posted there.
Minister of State for Home Manik Thakre, Minister of State for General Administration Dr Vijay Gavit, who represents Nandurbar in the state assembly, and Director General of Police Subhash Malhotra visited the town.
