Jamir asks Nagaland power minister to resign

Nagaland Chief Minister S C Jamir on Wednesday night said he had asked state Power Minister K Therie to resign from the council of ministers with immediate effect to facilitate a minor reshuffle in his cabinet.

However, the minister denied having received any communication in this regard from Jamir.

"I want to effect a minor reshuffle in the ministry," Jamir told PTI.

The chief minister stressed that nothing should be read behind his decision to relieve the power minister of his post and he only sought to inject new blood in his government to give it a more dynamic look.

Therie said he was yet to receive any formal communication from the chief minister in this regard and Jamir would have to explain to him the reasons (for seeking his resignation) when formally intimating him about the move.

Recalling Therie's long association with him, Jamir ruled out the decision had been prompted by any factor other than the wish to include young members in the cabinet.

Therie has been in the Congress ministry as cabinet minister since 1993.
