Explosives seized in Bangalore, five held

In one of the biggest-ever such hauls in Bangalore, the city police on Saturday seized a huge cache of explosives, arms, ammunition and chemicals used for making improvised explosive devices and have arrested five men.

The seizure yielded 1,200 electric detonators, 970 ordinary detonators, nine hand grenades, 13 empty pipe bombs, and 75 live rounds, apart from explosive materials, Karnataka Home Minister Mallikarjun Kharge said.

At least one of the accused was trained in handling explosives by People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam in Tamil Nadu in 1985, he said, but added that a probe was on to establish their links.
