Amar Singh arrested in Lucknow

Sharat Pradhan in Lucknow

Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh was arrested in Lucknow on Monday while leading a protest march against the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition government in Uttar Pradesh.

The Mayawati government swung into action late on Sunday and cracked down on several local Samajwadi Party politicians and activists who were involved in mobilizing people for Monday's demonstration.

Singh was arrested on an apprehension of breach of peace along with several other activists and some legislators of his party.
