BJP may disqualify dissident MLCs in UP

After moving to get the ten dissident MLAs disqualified from the assembly, Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party leadership is now contemplating to petition the Speaker for disqualifying some dissident members of the legislative council also, party sources said in Lucknow on Wednesday.

A petition to this effect was likely to be given to the chairman of the Vidhan Parishad Manavendra Singh in a couple of days, they said.

The party has, however, not revealed the names of the legislative council members whose membership could be in danger.

The state BJP leadership has decided to take action against these MLCs after it was concluded they were in the forefront of the dissident activities.

The party also felt that there should not be any further delay in clamping down on the dissidence as it could send a wrong message and also embolden the fence sitters, they said.

The party, however, would be ready to talk to those legislators, who 'realise' their 'mistakes' and 'apologise' before the filing of the petition, they added.
