Minor fire in New MLA Hostel, Nariman Point, Mumbai

A minor fire broke out on Friday afternoon in the 14-storeyed New MLA Hostel at Nariman Point in south Mumbai

No casualties were reported so far, fire brigade sources said.

The blaze broke out at 12.20 noon on the mezzanine floor of the building where a lot of goods were stored, they said.

Though the fire brigade had brought the fire under control, the inmates were facing respiratory problem owing to thick smoke billowing out of the building, sources said.

Various breathing apparatus along with nearly four fire engines, three tankers and ambulances had been rushed to the spot, they said.

Several inmates were evacuated from the building with the help of snorkels.

Members of Legislative Assembly arriving in the city from their constituencies and government officials are normally housed at the hostel.
