Salman to spend another
3 days in police custody

Syed Firdaus Ashraf in Mumbai

A Mumbai court on Thursday gave the police custody of Salman Khan till October 13. The actor had been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run case in which one person died and four were injured.

Metropolitan Magistrate at the Bandra court S Y Shisode said, "Granting bail to Salman Khan at this point will frustrate the police investigation. However, the demand for police custody of Salman Khan for 10 days is not justified. Three days is enough to ascertain all the facts of the case."

The police sought ten days' custody as they are in the process of ascertaining details about the ownership of the Land Cruiser, the vehicles Salman was allegedly driving at the time of the accident.

While being presented in the court, Salman was wearing the same black shirt that he had worn on the day of his arrest (October 7). He was unshaven, unkempt, looked tired and was visibly upset. He was silent when the case was being heard.

The only time he spoke was when the judge was about to pronounce his judgment.

Salman told the judge he was staying at a 15-minute drive from the Bandra police station and would be very willing to go and speak to the police officers any time they demanded his presence.

"I am at home and am not running anyway. I have been asked only two questions by the investigating officers, about my car, in the last two days and they have been very nice to me," he said.

The magistrate permitted him to have home food, water and clothes, all of which he did not have access to in the last three days.
