Trinamool Congress to attend NDA rally

Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, whose party had virtually severed links with the ruling National Democratic Alliance, has been invited to a NDA rally in New Delhi on October 25, to mark the completion of three years of the Vajpayee government.

The invitation assumes significance after the Trinamool Congress distanced itself from the government and the NDA on the issue of the Eastern Railway birfucation.

Among those who will attend the rally are Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani, NDA convenor and Defence Minister, George Fernandes, and BJP President M Venkaiah Naidu, and leaders of allied parties, Bharatiya Janata Party spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.

He said invitations have been sent to Biju Janata Dal leader and Union Minister Arjun Charan Sethi, Haryana Chief Minister and Indian National Lok Dal leader Om Prakash Chautala, Akali Dal leader Parkash Singh Badal, and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah.

Other allies like the Shiv Sena and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam have also been invited, he said.

Naqvi said a two-day meeting of the BJP legislators will be held at Nagpur on November 11 and 12 to review preparations for assembly elections in ten states and the programmes of the party to strengthen the organisation.
