Prison authorities in Orissa have decided to send children, staying with their mothers in prisons, to school from November 14, the day observed all over the country as Children's Day, Inspector General of Prisons Bidya Bhusan Mohanty said on Thursday.
Several private and government-run schools have shown interest to provide them education, he said.
The plan was formulated at the end of the first day of the three-day long training programme of state prison officials at state capital, Bhubaneswar. The training programme was organised as part of the jail reforms programme, which was launched a couple of months back.
As a part of this programme, prison officials have organised several awareness campaigns for the prisoners.
They also allowed the prisoners to take part in religious functions organised outside the prisons.
