Bomb alert in Kolkata
airport on Wednesday

An alert was sounded at the NSC Bose International Airport on Kolkata on Wednesday after an anonymous caller said that a human bomb would strike, airport sources said.

The city office of the Jet Airways received a call at around 1655 hours IST that the bomber had targeted their airport office inside the domestic terminal.

The airport immediately went on an alert with the Quick Resistance Team and sniffer dogs conducting checks both inside and outside the protected areas, sources in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is entrusted with the security of the airport, said.

Employees of airlines' offices and organisations were also put on alert, and special security arrangements were made for aircraft on the apron and vital installations.

However, nothing was found till 2000 IST, though the security checks would continue, the sources said.

A Delhi-bound Jet Airways flight was delayed by 40 minutes because of the stepped up security following the phone call.
