Teesta-Torsa Express derails
in north Bengal

Five coaches of the 3142 Dn New Jalpaiguri-Sealdah Teesta-Torsha Express derailed in the Azimganj section of the Eastern Railway late on Thursday night, Eastern Railway sources said.

Railway sources said one air conditioned coach, three sleeper coaches and one general bogie of the Sealdah-bound train derailed at around 2345 IST near Mahipal Road station, over 200 km from Kolkata and 80 km from Malda town.

An accident-relief train and a special train carrying a 50-member medical team, including eight doctors, had left for the accident site from Malda, they said. There are no reports of any casualty so far, they added.

The Divisional Railway Manager (Malda) and the Assistant DRM have also rushed to the spot, the sources said.
