The prime minister is not known to be particularly religious, but he told Goel that he often reads the Mahabharat and Ramayan.
He also revealed that he reads Kalidasa's Meghdoot and Shakespeare's plays. He added that he read the Vedas when he was a prisoner at New Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences during the Emergency.
