Geelani operated at Tata Memorial hospital

February 12, 2003 19:22 IST

All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani was operated at the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai for suspected cancer in the kidney, family sources said on Wednesday.

He is under observation after the operation, hospital sources said.

Geelani was recently released on parole in view of his failing health. He was admitted to the Tata Memorial on February 5 for specialised treatment.

Geelani was being held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act at the Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi, Bihar. In view of his failing health, a medical board constituted by the Jharkhand government had suggested three hospitals for his treatment, one of which was the Tata Memorial Hospital.
