Geelani recovering, but still in ICU

February 13, 2003 17:15 IST

Senior Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who underwent a surgery for cancer in the kidney at the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH) in Mumbai two days ago, is recovering but is still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), according to hospital sources.

Geelani will be shifted to his room on Friday for post-surgery recuperation, the sources said on Thursday.

His family members, who were present in the hospital, expressed satisfaction over his condition.

Meanwhile, the security around Geelani has been relaxed, the sources added.

The Hurriyat leader, who was admitted to the TMH on February five for specialised treatment, was released on parole on February eight by the Jammu and Kashmir government considering his health condition, after nine months of detention under the Public Safety Act.
