SC cannot resolve Ayodhya issue: VHP

February 14, 2003 22:27 IST

Vishwa Hindu Parishad international general secretary Pravin Togadia on Friday said the Supreme Court cannot solve the Ram temple issue.

"The only way to solve it is through a legislation," he said in Mangalore.

The VHP expects that 'good sense' will prevail among all political parties as well as Muslim leaders to consider 'our sentiments for the birth place of Ram', he said.

"Why can't the Congress and BJP [Bharatiya Janata Party] come together on the issue of Lord Ram's birthplace and pass a legislation for construction of temple?" he asked.

The Congress should join the 'pro-Hindu movement to help themselves... it will be of advantage to them', he added.

The Congress would 'go into darkness' if it does not help in the construction of temple, he added.

He said the VHP's goal is to make India a Hindu rashtra.
