Three NRIs killed in train mishap

January 04, 2003 18:15 IST

A US-based family, which was on a pilgrimage to India, died in the Secunderabad-Manmad Express mishap, family sources said on Saturday.

It was a long-pending visit to Shirdi, which L V Rao, a senior executive at the National Thermal Power Corporation, and his wife L Padma had planned to undertake with their US-based daughter and her family.

The two boarded the train with Pavani Latha, Ramana and their granddaughter on Thursday for Manmad.

Their bodies were recovered from the AC-3 tier coach of the train.

The London-based son of Rao, L P Hareesh, was informed about the tragedy and was expected to reach Hyderabad on Saturday evening, the sources added.

Eighteen passengers were killed and 41 injured when the Manmad-bound train rammed into a stationary goods train at Ghatnandur station in Beed district of Maharashtra early Friday.
