Shed communal image, Advani to RSS

K G Suresh in Nagpur | July 14, 2003 21:24 IST

Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani has asked the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to shed its communal image.

In a closed door meeting with RSS functionaries at its Reshimbagh headquarters in Maharashtra on Sunday, he said the differences in public perception of the RSS had to be removed as it projected itself in a 'bad light'.

He advised the RSS fountainhead to make use of media and communication technology to 'project the correct picture' rather than that of a divisive and communal outfit, Sangh sources told PTI.

"While such differences may be good for a politician, it was not good for an organisation like RSS as its reality of ardent nationalism was in contrary to the image projected," Advani said, according to sources.

At the brainstorming session of the Sangh Parivar in Delhi few months back, Advani had reportedly expressed similar concern over Vishwa Hindu Parishad's projection as a 'trishul-wielding outfit.'
