CISF jawan commits suicide in Mumbai
July 19, 2003 02:41 IST
Barely three months after a Central Industrial Security Force jawan shot dead his senior, a CISF constable on Friday night used his service rifle to commit suicide.
According to the Mumbai police, Pawan Singh Gyan Singh Rathi (31) shot at himself in the Sewari Docks area at 1930 IST.
He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead.
It was not immediately known why he committed suicide, police said.
On May 24, R Namdeo had shot dead deputy commandant A Karandekar at the Mumbai international airport in a fit of rage.
Namdeo's act had sparked a controversy over the frustration brewing among security personnel due to adverse service conditions.
Namdeo's parents had alleged in a Mumbai court that their son had taken the extreme step after he was refused leave and humiliated.
Namdeo was arrested and continues to be in custody. He is facing the charge of murder and holding six other security personnel, including women, hostage.
