Al Shuhda Brigade claims responsibility for attack on army camp

July 22, 2003 16:02 IST

A lesser-known militant outfit, Al Shuhda Brigade, has claimed responsibility for Tuesday morning's attack on an army camp at Akhnoor in Jammu, which left seven soldiers dead and several injured.

Two ultras involved in the suicide attack were also killed.

"The attack on the camp was carried out to protest visiting Pakistani opposition leader Fazlur Rehman's remarks that the Line of Control should be converted into a permanent border and that Kashmir issue should be resolved within the framework of the Simla agreement," a hand written press release faxed by the outfit from Srinagar to the PTI office in Jammu said.

Al Shuhda Brigade wants to make Rehman realise that his statements would have no bearing on the 'jehad' in Kashmir, the statement said.

"We are of the view that some self-seeking Muslims have always damaged the cause of Islam and Fazlur Rahman is the
chip of the old block. He has hurt the feelings of Kashmiri Muslims," the release added.
