Opposition wants UP assembly reconvened

March 06, 2003 17:58 IST

A day after the opposition-sponsored no-confidence motion was defeated in the Uttar Pradesh assembly, Samajwadi Party legislators on Thursday met Governor Vishnukant Shastri and demanded reconvening of the House to take up their motion afresh.

The legislators, led by Leader of the Opposition Mohammed Azam Khan, handed over a memorandum to the governor urging him to overrule the decision to adjourn the assembly sine die two days in advance.

The legislators also demanded dismissal of the 'minority' Mayawati government.
