Mayawati meets PM, threatens
to reveal letter's contents

March 08, 2003 15:04 IST

Caught in a bind over the tape controversy, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Saturday met Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Speaking to reporters after the 75-minute meeting, Mayawati said she would reveal the contents of a letter she had written to the prime minister earlier in the week at an appropriate time.

"I have brought all the facts to the notice of the prime minister and the deputy prime minister through this letter. Everything can't be said, but these facts can be revealed when the time comes," she said.

Mayawati on Friday had met Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani.

Mayawati's letter, written in the aftermath of the Samajwadi Party submitting a tape to the Uttar Pradesh governeror showing her demanding a cut from her party MLAs' constituency development fund, was not tabled in Parliament earlier this week when Advani made a statement in the Lok Sabha.
