Blasts not aimed at Gujaratis: Shinde

March 14, 2003 15:11 IST

The recent bomb blasts in Mumbai, including the one in Mulund on Thursday, were not targeted at the Gujarati community, Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said.

Of the four blasts since December, three took place in Gujarati areas of Ghatkopar, Vile Parle and Mulund while the fourth blast occurred at the Mumbai Central station.

Shinde said he would apprise Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani about the Mulund blast after a meeting of representatives of the armed forces, intelligence agencies, railways, home department and police officials.

They will also deliberate on methods to prevent occurrence of such incidents, he said.

The blast, which ripped through a local train in Mulund, claimed 12 lives and left over 65 injured.
