Centre asks Vohra to hold talks with Hurriyat

March 16, 2003 19:26 IST

The Centre is committed to devolution of power, Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani said in Panaji on Sunday.

He said the Centre's interlocutor on Kashmir, N N Vohra, has been asked to hold talks with All-Party Hurriyat Conference leaders and other groups that may subscribe to separatism, but are not engaged in violence.

The legitimate grievances of the people of the state will be addressed, he said.

A similar approach is being used to tackle insurgency in the Northeast, he said.

The last two decades have seen 'over-centralisation' of power at the Centre, Advani added.
