Healing touch misunderstood: Mufti

March 30, 2003 20:10 IST

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed on Saturday said his healing touch policy was being "wrongly projected to create confusion".

"My government will continue with the policy..." the Mufti said at a rally in Kupwara.

He said the objective of the policy was to focus on various issues and to "apply ointment on the wounds of the affected people".

All parties in the coalition government had joined hands and formulated a strategy to bring back normalcy in the state, he said.

"We have given a pledge to the people to restore peace with dignity and there will be no compromise on our pledges," the Mufti said.

Referring to the massacre of Pandits in Pulwama, he said, "It was aimed to create a wedge between Hindus and Muslims in the state. But the people of Kashmir have kept the flag of secularism high."
