The Telugu Desam Party on Thursday decided to go back to people and seek their mandate through early assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.

At a general body meeting of the party in Hyderabad, a resolution recommending the dissolution of the assembly got an overwhelming endorsement.

Around 7,500 members who came to the meeting adopted the resolution -- Which accused the Congress, naxalites and Telangana separatists of creating hurdles in the path of development -- by show of hands.

During his 90-minute address, party leader and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu recalled his government's achievements during the last eight years.

The general body adopted another resolution condemning the October 1 naxalite attack on Naidu.

Earlier, the TDP politburo had also adopted a resolution calling for dissolution of the assembly.

The term of the current assembly is up to first week of October next 2004. But the TDP leadership is reportedly of the view that another spell of drought and harsh summer might prove disadvantageous for the party.
