Naga tribes are demanding a unified homeland spread across Assam , Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur. The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Issac-Muivah) is the main group that has called for Nagalim, or Greater Nagaland.

The NSCN (I-M) has been engaged in talks with New Delhi since the two sides called a truce in 1997.

Vajpayee lays a wreath at the Kohima war memorial on Tuesday. The memorial was built for the Indian and Allied soldiers who died fighting the Japanese during the three-month long 'Battle of Kohima' that ended in April 1944.
