Jammu and Kashmir Agriculture Minister Abdul Aziz Zargar, facing accusations of having played a role in the conspiracy to attack the Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar, resigned on Thursday evening.

"Yes, I have submitted my resignation to the chief minister," Zargar told rediff.com on phone.

Earlier in the day, Zargar had denied the allegations that he had anything to do with the terrorists who had attacked the temple on September 24, 2002.

The minister has been under pressure even since an arrested Lashkar-e-Tayiba militant reportedly revealed to the police that the conspiracy to attack the temple was hatched in the minister's house.

"I decided to submit my resignation to the chief minister as a campaign has been launched against me. I don't know of any conspiracy and the charges are baseless," Zargar said.

Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed has not yet accepted Zargar's resignation.
