US troops feared killed in Iraq ambush

September 18, 2003 19:47 IST

Up to eight US troops were feared killed on Thursday in an ambush in Khaldiyah in Iraq.

There is no official word on the number of soldiers killed.

A report from the spot said a military truck was possibly hit by a missile.

There was intermittent firing from the 50-calibre machine gun of a tank stationed near the smoldering truck.

It appeared the troops were trying to protect themselves until reinforcements arrived.
