Cold claims 19 more lives in UP

The cold wave in Uttar Pradesh has claimed 19 more lives since Thursday, taking the toll to 165, according to official sources.

Eight deaths were reported from Bahraich, five from Allahabad, three from Lucknow and one each from Pratapgarh, Banda and Jhansi, the sources said.

Varanasi and Gorakhpur were the coldest places, recording a minimum of 3� Celsius, while the day temperature in most parts of eastern UP recorded 6� below normal, the sources said.

The situation was likely to deteriorate further during the next couple of days, they added.
