Becoming PM not my goal: Rahul

November 16, 2004 19:18 IST

Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said he has not set himself a goalof becoming the prime minister.

"I don't buy that," Gandhi told reporters in Shillong when asked if he saw himself as the future prime minister. He said his only aim was to serve the nation.

Defending his decision of not becoming a minister in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government, Gandhi, a first time MP from Amethi, said he did not believe that a person having an experience of only six months in politics could become a minister.

"You can do things without any role," he said, adding at present he was working for the party.

About North East, Gandhi, who wrapped up his tour of the region on Tuesday, said the attitude of the people was "very positive."
