September 22, 2004 22:59 IST

Former Union minister Vidya Charan Shukla said on Wednesday that he was quitting the Bharatiya Janata Party.

"I have sent my resignation letter to BJP president Venkaiah Naidu today," Shukla said.

Shukla had joined the BJP just before the last Lok Sabha election. He hoped that Naidu would accept resignation with immediate effect.
