Speaking to NDTV, Satish Mathur, Mumbai's joint commissioner, traffic, had requested people to remain at home unless it is an emergency.

He said certain parts of the city have seen flooding and light motor vehicles are not being allowed on certain roads.

Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg in the eastern suburbs has been closed due to water-logging, he said.

Traffic has been diverted at Hindmata, Parel, and Bharatmata, Lalbaug.

Flooding has also been reported at Mahananda Dairy near Goregaon, he said.

He added that buses and motor traffic have stalled at some places, leading to a traffic slowdown.

Reports say the police seem much more prepared this time and, wherever traffic has been stalled, there is an effort being made to move the stalled vehicles to the side of the road.

The police are also out on the roads, directing the sparse traffic through less water-logged routes.
