Fire brigade personnel were making efforts to evacuate over 40 people stranded in a building on Singhgad road due to inundation of the area following heavy rains in the city since Monday and subsequent release of water from Khadakvasla dam, sources said on Tuesday.

The water level was nearly four feet at Vithalwadi on Singhgad road, fire brigade personnel said.

Chief Fire Officer L N Raut told PTI that there were over 40 people in the building, waiting to be shifted to safer places.

"We have already shifted nearly 200 people in the area," he said adding that Fire Brigade personnel, engaged in rescue operations, were equipped with two boats and four fire fighters.
