It was a different experiment with truth when nearly 70 under trials from Thane jail appeared for an examination based on Gandhi's autobiography.
The under trials, some of them graduates, double graduates and even an Master of Business Administration degree holder had to answer questions based on My Experiment with Truth.
The jail inmates, sitting cross-legged in a sprawling hall, grappled with Gandhi's life, his quotes, his ideas of the incidents that proved to be turning points in his life, all well elaborated in his famous autobiography.
The examination, conducted by the Mumbai Sarvodaya Mandal and Samip Pratishthan Orientation, was aimed at bringing about a change of heart among the prisoners through Gandhi's teachings.
Lectures on Gandhi's book were also held for the prisoners before the examination, mandal sources said.
Those who appeared for the examination would be given certificates. There will also be special prizes for those who had performed well. They would be handed over on Martyrs' Day on January 30, the sources added.
